Bar 21
It’s Monday night and the night Slopez DJ’s at Bar 21, one of the “coolest” bars on this side of The Hill (for those not in So Cal, The Hill separates the Valley side from Hollywood/WeHo/Beverly Hills etc.) You never quite know what to expect at this place which has the look and feel of a spot in Seattle or a cool lounge in NYC. The dark wood ceilings, exposed brick walls and dark décor has a vibe decidedly UN-valley like which is why I like it. Even more of a reason to come here is you’ll never find a guy at the door standing with a clipboard; there is no list, no cover and no attitude. Sure the crowd isn’t exactly the hipster/scenester vibe you’ll find just across the crest, but since I turned 30 this year, I’ve begun to care a whole helluva lot less about such things. When you’ve got good friends and a good vibe around, YOU create the scene and make it your own which is just fine by me. Just make sure you ask CR to pour and tell him I sent you, you’ll be taken care of just fine.
Only problem on the night was a broken turntable needle that prevented Maestro Lopez from concocting that Timbaland/Britney mashup I’ve come to expect come 11:30 each Monday eve.. ah well… at least we had Christopher Cross and GnR.
Good Times, Bad Needles.
